EAA Chapter 1593 is looking for volunteers to help with various ground duties for the Ford Tri-Motor return to Yuba County Airport, 8-15 April 2019. Roles include Passenger Escort, Crowd Control, Shift Team Leader, and Fire Guards. Watching a training video is required. Approximately 4-5 volunteer hours per day volunteered. Coordinate location, panelists, marketing, and setup for NCAI’s monthly aviation education speaker series. Works in conjunction with NCAI Education Committee, and no aviation knowledge is required. YUBA SUTTER LSA TEEN BUILD ADULT MENTOR.
Beginning this fall, guide local high school students in building a full-size, flying RV-12 airplane. Requires communicating and working with high school-age students in a shop setting, attention to detail, and ability to comprehend written plans and assembly instructions. Basic mechanical aptitude (use of common hand and power tools), experience building aircraft, and familiarity with aircraft structures are helpful, but not required. Mentor training occurs in summer 2019 and fingerprinting by the local sheriff’s office is required (provided). Approximately 2-4 volunteer hours per week, weekday afternoons or evenings. SUTTER COUNTY AIRPORT MAINTENANCE.
Periodically mow grass and weeds between and around airport ramp, taxiways, and runway using airport’s large tractor-towed mower. Sutter Buttes Regional Aviation Association (SBRAA) provides training for operating the tractor. During spring/summer/fall seasons, at least two volunteer hours per month. EAA YOUNG EAGLES PILOTS AND GROUND VOLUNTEERS.
Take youth ages 8-17 on initial flight in an aircraft, as part of Experimental Aircraft Association’s Young Eagles initiative. Pilots must be appropriately licensed, provide their own aircraft (owned or rented), and pay for all flight expenses. Ground volunteers review application paperwork, print certificates, and pair youth with pilots. Pilot and ground volunteers require national EAA membership number, and free Youth Protection Program training and online background check. YUBA-SUTTER SHERIFF’S AERO-SQUADRON.
Furnish aircraft and personnel to assist law enforcement. Volunteer pilots support activities including search-and-rescue, aerial observation, and emergency transportation of Sheriff’s Office personnel. Regular meetings and training. Assist in coordinating and selecting candidates and recipients of various chapter-administered scholarships, including Ray Scholarship and EAA Air Academy summer camp. Manage membership rolls for local Marysville-Yuba City EAA Chapter, in conjunction with chapter secretary/treasurer. Coordinate follow-up with Young Eagles to redeem their free EAA Student Membership and Chapter 1593 Membership. Conduct the annual process of recruiting nominees for various elected positions within the Chapter, and report these nominations to the membership of the chapter. LSA TEEN BUILD STEERING COMMITTEE.
As part of NCAI’s Education Committee, responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the Teen Build pilot program, providing budget recommendations to the Education Committee, and coordinating NCAI support for future expansion of the airplane building initiative to regional public and charter schools. Responsible for coordinating aviation scholarship, speaker series, and other educational and enrichment programs including LSA Teen Build.
